X-Ray/Radiology requires a referral letter from your doctor or Home Affairs. If you do not have a referral letter, Dr. Maphisa & Partners on 3rd floor will assist you with one on arrival.

Hillbrow Branch Closed
Please be informed that our Hillbrow branch will be closing down on the 01 May 2022 until further notice. All your medical records at Hillbrow have been transferred to our Johannesburg branch at Lister Medical Centre.

Dr. Nxumalo will now be consulting  from our Johannesburg branch at 3rd Floor, Lister Medical Centre in the CBD. 

Dr. Nxumalo's working hours at our Johannesburg branch are Mondays to Fridays, from 9am to 5pm.

We are a walk-in practice and operate on a first come first served basis. You therefore do NOT need to make an appointment. Identity documents are NOT required. However, if you are using medical aid or registering for a FREE programme, proof of identity is required.

Our doctors and clinicians speak a variety of languages, including seSotho, seTswana, isiZulu, isiXhosa, siSwati, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, English and Afrikaans.


We also have isiNdebele, Khalanga and Shona speaking doctors.

FREE HIV Testing, Treatment & PrEP Programme.

We now offer FREE (Please not that the FREE service has been suspended, see price list below) HIV testing, treatment and PrEP to the public. To qualify for FREE treatment, you are required to test and also register for the FREE programme. 

The FREE programme is open to both South African and foreign nationals residing in South Africa.

Required Documents
Patients should bring proof of identity, for example, ID book/card (local or foreign), drivers license (local or foreign), passport (local or foreign), or asylum papers.

If you have lost your ID book/card, passport or any of your identity documents, please bring an affidavit from the SAPS.

We accept cash, debit and credit cards/SpeedPoint or swiping.


Please ensure that you get a receipt for all payments made.

If you already know your HIV status and are not registered with our FREE (Please not that the FREE service has been suspended, see price list below) HIV testing and treatment programme, our consultation fees for cash patients are R650 for both adults and children. 

Consultation fees for cash patients include an allowance for medication. 

We accept medical aid. We also dispense medication to medical aid patients. 

Review Fees 
Our review fees are R350 on condition you come back within 7 days of your last consultation date. If you come after 7 days, you will be required to pay the full consultation fees of R650

Complications 
It is important to come back for review as instructed by the doctor. Failure to come back may lead to medical complications and endanger your life.

We also stock affordable ARV drugs. 

The average cost for a month’s supply of ARV’s is R400. 

If you are already on ARV drug treatment and would like to purchase more, please come to our Johannesburg or Hillbrow branches. 

You can also request our doctor to give you a script for 6 months so that you can purchase them from the nearest pharmacy.
Treatment after exposure to HIV/Post exposure prophylaxis/PEP
Treatment after Exposure to HIV/Post Exposure Prophylaxis/PEP

We also offer emergency treatment for the prevention of HIV infection after unprotected sex or condom rapture. This is referred to as post exposure prophylaxis or PEP.

72 Hours Window 
PEP must be started within 72 hours after a recent possible exposure to HIV, but the sooner you start PEP, the better. Every hour counts. 

Duration of PEP Treatment 
If you’re prescribed PEP, you’ll need to take it once or twice daily for 28 days. PEP is effective in preventing HIV when administered correctly, but not 100%.

We will soon be offer FREE Pre Exposure Prophylaxis/PrEP to the public.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis/PrEP is a new HIV prevention method, in which people who do not have HIV, take a daily pill to reduce their risk of becoming infected through unprotected sex. 

How to take PrEP Medication 
Daily PrEP is best taken at the same time each day so it becomes part of your routine, but a few hours late or early is fine. You can keep your PrEP next to your toothbrush and tooth paste and take your pill each morning after cleaning.

Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission during Pregnancy/PMTCT

Pregnant mothers who are HIV positive are offered treatment to prevent them from passing the infection to their unborn babies. 

This is referred to as Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission or PMTCT. 

PMTCT Medication after the Child is Born 
PMTCT services should include early infant diagnosis at four to six weeks after birth, testing at 18 months and/or when breastfeeding ends, and ART initiation as soon as possible for HIV-exposed infants to prevent HIV acquisition.

If you are attending a government clinic or hospital, you can collect your ARV’S and chronic medication FREE of charge from our Johannesburg Branch. 

No consultation fees 
The chronic medication collection service is FREE of charge. 
You will therefore not be charged any consultation fees. 

Open 7am - 7pm 
We are open 7am - 7pm every day including weekends an all public holidays. We are also open on all holidays including Christmas, New Year and Easters. 

Transfer Letter 
In order to collect your government chronic medication for FREE from Lister Clinic | Dr. Maphisa & Partners Inc., you need a transfer letter from the government clinic that you are currently attending.

Medical Aid Patients

We accept most medical aids on condition we can confirm your identity and availability of funds. 
Please bring you identity document, drivers license or passport.
We however, do NOT accept all Momentum and  CareCross options.
We accept all Discovery options except Smart and Core Options.
We also accept MotoHealth except the Custom Option.


Co-payments and Medication

We do NOT charge co-payments.

We also dispense medication to medical aid patients.


Cash Payments Methods

If we are not able to confirm your identity or availability of funds, you will be required to pay cash.
We will however give you a statement so that you can claim a refund from your medical aid.
Please ensure that you get a receipt for all payments made.
We accept cash, debit and credit cards/SpeedPoint or swiping.

Medical Aid Fraud 
It is a criminal offense to use your medical aid for persons that are not registered with your medical aid, even if the patient is your friend, child or family member. Please do not ask our doctor to help you commit fraud.

Free Medical Aid Benefits 
Wellness Tests 
Wellness tests and consultations do not affect your day-to-day benefits as they are paid from the hospital benefit. We advise our patients to do annual wellness screening tests and dental check-ups. 

Adults 
For adults, tests covered include annual dental check-ups, blood glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, weight/BMI, HIV, prostrate test/PSA, Pap smear and mammograms 

Children 
For children, the benefits cover growth assessment, including height, weight, head circumference and milestone tracking.

Medical certificates/sick notes & family responsibility leave
Medical Certificates/Sick Notes    

If you require a medical certificate or report, inform our doctor before you leave the practice. We however do not issue or sell false sick notes and medical reports. Please do not ask our doctor to write you a fraudulent or false sick note or medical report. 

Family Responsibility Leave 
If you are accompanying a sick patient or minor child, please ask our doctor to issue you with a medical certificate for persons accompanying patient so that you can apply for family responsibility leave with your employer. 

Confidentiality 
We are bound by medical ethics and the law NOT to disclose patient medical records or information to any Third Parties including employers, spouses, partners, parents, relatives or friends without the patient’s informed and written consent or Court Order. We will therefore NOT include your medical condition in your sick note.
